Small Groups
There are many opportunities for membership in a small group at FCC Leavenworth. These groups exist for various purposes including fellowship, Bible study, mutual support, study of specific issues, prayer and carrying out of projects. Some of the groups are long-standing and continuous while others come and go as wants and needs dictate.
There is something for everyone among the small groups, and if not, then perhaps another group could and should be formed to meet your specific need. Being in a small group is a major part of worship at FCC. Come be a part of the church!
The Disciples Women Fellowship (DWF)
All women who are members of the church and women who accept the purpose of the fellowship, are members of the Disciples Women’s Fellowship.
Disciples Women’s Fellowship Purpose is to provide opportunities for spiritual growth, enrichment, education and creative ministries to enable women to develop a sense of personal responsibility for the whole mission of the church of Jesus Christ.DWF Scripture “What we have seen and heard we tell you also, so that you will join us in the fellowship that we have with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.” I John 1:30
DWF Prayer “Unto You, O God, we give our thanks and lift our hearts in prayer. May your presence be with us and your love surround us as we work together in the Disciple Women’s Fellowship. Open our eyes to the needs of the world and fill our hearts with concern for all people. Guide us that we may truly serve you, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.”
DWF Ongoing Service Projects: Collecting Labels, Eyeglasses and Hearing Aids for Council on Aging, Woodhaven Learning Center, Lions Club, and Sertoma. Additionally the DWF has several annual projects: Baby Shower for Birthright, Church World Service- Blankets+, Kansas Christian Home and Alliance Against Family Violence.
The Disciples Women Fellowship (DWF) is divided into five groups. The meetings are held on the second Tuesday or second Wednesday of each month. Additionally, Saturday Sisters meet once a month. There are also four general meetings, January, May, June & October.
The five groups and their meeting times are:
- Group I - 2nd Tuesday 6:00 a.m.
- Group IV -2nd Tuesday 1:15 p.m.
- Group III - 2nd Wednesday 10:00 a.m.
- Group II - 2nd Wednesday 7:00 p.m.
- Group V - 2nd Wednesday 7:00 p.m.
All ladies in the church are welcome to attend any of the groups.
Saturday Sisters
The Saturday Sisters meets in the Kitterman Room (in the annex) on the third or fourth Saturday of the month (check the calendar for next date). All women are welcome to attend. Meetings are at noon with a light meal included. Group discussion and sharing of ideas are the main focus of this group.
The Disciples Men Fellowship
The Disciples Men Fellowship is locally titled Christian Men's Fellowship, meets in the Kitterman Room at 6:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. It is a covered dish dinner meeting. We have dinner, devotions, a program and a short business meeting.
All men of the church are members of this group (and we welcome others to join us). The CMF has two fundraisers during the year.The first is a pancake breakfast, where the money is given to a designated charity.
The second fundraiser is car parking at the Leavenworth County Fair. The CMF group has been parking cars at the fair for over 30 years. The funds help special promotions at the church, pay camp fees for kids who would not be able to go to church camp or scout camp, to local charities, for disaster relief and any other need that the members see.
Monday Morning Men's Prayer Breakfast
As the name implies, Monday morning prayer breakfast is held each Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. in the Kitterman Room located in the annex to the East of the main church building. The cooking and cleanup is done on a rotation, with each person in the group taking a turn. About the only time we do not have the breakfast is on Christmas morning. We start with a short devotion, and then break into small groups of three to four people to have prayer time. Breakfast depends upon who is in charge. We have everything from cereal, fruit, juice and coffee to biscuits and gravy. It is an excellent way to start the new week. Come and join us for breakfast!
